The photos don't show some of the subtle shading on these figures. I will work on my technique to hopefully improve on that. The shadows went very black. Skin tone took a while for me to come to terms with on these ones and future Arabs may appear less bright than some of these ones appear.
As an army painter actually having a standard uniform colour can make choices simpler but it can be very enjoyable to suspend a cohesive look and start getting random. In some ways it makes the progress take a little longer but its going to be interesting to see how they look together once I have a warband/army. Cheers from Brendon W.
An absolutely gorgeous entry Brendon, especially the shields. I've not seen the GB plastic Arabs in detail until now and I'm already a fan although your brushwork might have played a small part. 55 points worth of troops and a few bonus points for the hand painting is a great start on what looks like a busy day for you! Cheers, Millsy.
Very nice! I think they look cohesive despite not all having the same colour outfits.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't have put it better myself.
DeleteVery nice Arabs there Brendon. And very brave to freehand Arabic script on the shields :)
ReplyDeleteWow, love these Brendan. Great job on the shields.
ReplyDeleteCheers PD
The Arab force grows. At this rate they will be quite large and imposing by the end of the challenge. Bravo sir.
ReplyDeleteGrab yourself a cold beer and relax. You have earned it!(Millsy will pay I am sure) hee hee!
The sheilds are really good! They still look every bit a unit too, adhoc by nature! ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat entry, your shields are fantastic. I can't tell which are free hand and which are not. The backdrop is very fitting as well.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! The shields turned out very nicely, and a nice mix of colors without looking too chaotic or random.
ReplyDeleteGreat looking unit, and terrific shields. This time last year I was painting lots of Arabic inscriptions on shields and it did my head in. One hint - you can find some good inspiration for Arabic slogans on Medieval coins.
ReplyDeleteThese are great looking figures, especially the shields. All your posts were excellent, but I think these are my favourites! I agree with your thoughts on not basing them as if they were in the middle of the desert.
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone from the mad bomber of the Analogue Paint Challenge. cheers
ReplyDeleteExcellent painting, nicely done!
