Samuli's Challenge

Whew, what a challenge it has been again! Quite a hectic three months and plenty of amazing entries by everyone involved! Fourth time on board for me and with this entry I think I've managed a personal best in points! At least if you don't count any bonus rounds as in previous editions I've participated in plenty of those. 1096 points at least for me is quite impressive. Sadly no group picture as I store most of my miniatures at my club and I won't be there in the near future to take a picture.

I had two major projects that I wanted to get forward during the challenge. US troops for Flames of War and Saxons for our Napoleonics games. Both did see quite a few units done. The Saxons are still far from completion, but the yanks only really need one small platoon and a few random Jeeps and they are done at least for a while. I've previously had some issues with keeping my painting mojo going with larger projects so this time around I vowed to do some fun stuff in between to break the monotony of painting unit after unit of the same forces. Quite successful and I did manage to put some paint on multiple Oldhammer and other miniatures that have been waiting for paint far too long!

Oldhammer minis that have been neglected far too long!

Flames of War odds and ends

Saxon army of 1813

28mm WW2

Zombicide and some christmas decorations

And last but not least my entry fee in the form of the teddy bear likeliness of our beloved Snowlord!

Finding (and taking) a suitable photo for this momentous event proved to be rather hard. Normally I'm the one behind the camera so not much photographic evidence is available. And the missus is out of town so wasn't available for a photo shoot. So we'll have to go with some archival footage from a few months back with me taking part in my second favorite analogue hobby, hunting. Moose were hurt during the taking of this photo, but if it's any consolation to Curt, Greg and the other Canadians, no maple syrup was hurt during the act. As you can see from my ugly mug I'm holding the younger end of the age scale in the challenge as I'm only dealing with a looming 30s crisis.

Finally thank you again Curt for hosting this challenge! It's definitely increased my hobby output and skills throughout the years in vast quantities. Really a highlight of the hobby year!

And condolences to all the Canadians about none of your teams reaching the NHL playoffs (though I'd imagine Curt is quite happy that there is less hockey coverage). At least you have the World Cup coming that you can safely dominate!

  7. Your crazy hobbies aside, I always love your paintwork Samuli and this year you maintained your very high standard. I especially liked your gorgeous Napoleonic Saxons - that is going to be an amazing collection.

If you can, please send along some of that astonishingly vile liquorice with your marvelous CaesarBear. (I've developed an odd affinity to that stuff...) ;)

  13. Amazing work, Samuli, all the more so since most of the painting was undertaken in conditions of wintry near-darkness!

    Well done!

Here's hoping that by the time of AHPC VII, another elite Finnish player will have joined the Winnipeg Jets!

    1. Well they are definitely contending for the first pick this year! Just hope that they remember to hire an interpreter if they end up getting Puljujärvi :) Pretty much nonexistent english skills could prove tricky. Though I guess young guys will learn fast.

  15. Been a top quality trip with you. Every entry a high standard. Keeping it unpredictable as well with a great variety. I think that's part of the secret of keeping the paint flowing. Cheers

    1. Keeping it unpredictable seems to be a side effect of having far too many projects going on :)
