OFFTOPIC: Challengers Summit in Madrid

If there is something that I really appreciate in our hobby are the very friendly bounds and comradeship emerging among people living in different parts of the world that have never met in person.

Yesterday an Australian (Alan) and a Spaniard (Benito) Challengers and wargamers met in a café in central Madrid, and share stories and their respective hobby histories for several hours. Special mention to Alan's lovely partner Veronica, displaying a high dose of patient with the two us,  not showing a hint of boredom while these two "adult" wargamers discussed the relative merits of different Saga armies and the best miniature ranges.

This meeting ended with a visit to the holiest place in Madrid for wargamers: Atlantica Juegos, arguably one of the best supplied hobby shops in Continental Europe.

A great afternoon, and as I said in the introduction, evidence of how great our hobby is to connect people from around the world despite the distance and the language and cultural differences. I wish Alan and Veronica a very pleasent and happy holiday time in my country

  8. Oh yes, there was some shopping! Thank you, Benito for your warm welcome and kindness to Veronica and me. It truly is a wonderful thing about our hobby that we can meet people who have different experiences, different backgrounds, and yet we are rapidly able to bond over this great interest we share. It was a pleasure meeting you and hearing about the strength of the hobby in Madrid, and I stronly encourage anyone who has the opportunity to visit Atlantica Juegos. It was an almost religious experience. Only better.

  9. Fabulous! I love seeing our fine folk getting together in 'real space'. I only wish I could have been there for the chin wag (and perhaps a cup of hot chocolate and churros). :) Have a great rest of your trip Alan!
