Hoi,
Today I would like to try and finish the rounds of the Abyss with some cool old school Warhammer and Mordheim figures. Without further ado and guilding the lilly let's head over to Gluttony!
What else could I put forward to the Gluttony circle but an Ogre? This is a resin Ogre (can't remember what make) for my Marienburg Mordheim warband, hence his fancy armour and clothing. Yes I know that Marienburgers usually wear very flashy coloured stuff but my scheme is black and red which I think is rich yet brooding and hence cool!
After Gluttony we enter the circle of Greed and for this round I would like to offer up the Mayor of Mordheim (one of the NPC models created for the old Mordheim range). I used yellow and purple to show his wealth and gaudiness.
Now we enter the Circle of Wrath and for this I chose some of my Bretonnians, more specifically 4 tester figures I have done up for my Khemri/ desert crusade part of the army. If you know a bit about Bretonnian Lore, you have read the story of how a huge Bretonnian Army starts a crusade into the part of the Old World that is called Araby to fight a local tyrant that tried to conquer the Border Princes. Anyway they represent the Wrath of Bretonnia. I said testers because I used crackle paint and pigments on them for the first time ever.
I really like how they turned out and want to get cracking (pun intended) on the rest of the army.
I AM GREGARIUS! (Part I)
If you are a fan of Warhammer 40K or the Horus Heresy, you will be familiar with the Alpha Legion of Chaos Space Marines and the quote above. I feel a bit like a Alpha Marine when I see any of Greg's posts since we have a very similar taste in miniatures indeed. Greg is painting up a gorgeous 30K force; I try to do so too. He posted these same figures and they were in my painting cue too and I hope to finish a few more Gregarius posts before the Challenge's end.
On we go into the circle of Heresy and for this I chose one of the figures I really wanted to have for a long time and only recently obtained through the help of a friend (thanks Jeroen) and here he is Marco Colombo! He was the first Old Worlder to visit Lustria and strike up good relations with the lizardmen but his journal, which he published when returned to the Empire, made him a figure that was deaply distrusted and due to his claims of the origins of Dark Elves, Skaven and other such races was dubbed a heretic for his statements.
Whatever the story may be I really like how the paintjob worked out and he's my favourite of this whole bunch!
From the delightful Marco we no visit the most violent and nasty pair of vilians ever to walk through the ruined streets of Mordheim: Ulli and Marquand. They are two characters from a Mordheim comic book released back in the day and digitally to be read here. I could have used them in the circle of Treachery as well but it's their scenes of unexpected, random and brute violence that always shocked me when reading the comic.
These are figures from Wargames Exclusive in resin so not the original GW versions, but those are almost unobtainable pricewise! I like how they turned out a lot and am looking forward to include them in our campaigns.
We still have 2 circles left to go and next up is Fraud. Remember that Mayor of Mordheim? How do you think he got so rich? Yes that's right; he had his scribe swindle, bribe and commit all thinkable kinds of fraud to gain it. So for this circle it's only right to include the Mayor's secretary.
Wow, what a ride! Mighty fine work all round
ReplyDeleteMuch obliged!
DeleteThat's a lovely entry Sander, good to see the continuity in the theme and wonderful colour combinations and painting
ReplyDeleteI really try to achieve that continuity but it doesn't always work
DeleteWay to cruise the abyss. Wonderful painting on these old models. That comic is even more violent than I remembered. Thanks for the link.
ReplyDeleteI had a bowl painting these
DeleteGreat work; love the Mordheim characters.
ReplyDeleteCheers they were a lot of fun!
DeleteSome great looking figures Sander. Love the colourful uniforms.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray
DeleteAlways nice to see some old school figures, smashing paint jobs
ReplyDeleteThey deserved a nice paintjob after all that time in the pile ;-)
DeleteGray and red are a superb combination, and ogre landsknechts (the OG GW ones or Wargames Atlantics new versions) are absolute fire. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI don't own any Wargames Atlantic ogres yet (this one is resin I think from wargames exclusive or grimforge) but yeah the scheme really worked out
DeleteGreat work here Sander, love the old-school vibe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Dallas!
Delete@Curt: the mayor isn't an ogre, he is suppos3d to be a regular human, but I get why you would think so. And yes you have seen Marco Colombo before, right here in the Challenge painted by Greg, hence the I am Gregarius quote
ReplyDeleteSuperb brushwork
ReplyDeleteCheers mate!
DeleteExcellent Oldhammer stuff! Great brushjob!
ReplyDeleteThanks Teemu, I know you appreciate the old GW sculpts as well, they are such a joy to paint
DeleteGreat work on these Oldhammer figures
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind words Master Douglas!
DeleteYou blown me away with this post of wonderful painted figures! Fantastic work Sander! 😍
ReplyDeleteA labour of love Peter, much like your own projects!
DeleteThis was a ton of fun to read Sander - I particularly enjoyed the Dogs of War figures (naturally) but that scribe miniature...is that figure still out there to be found? I would love to paint up that figure to join the money-changer for my own Dogs of War force...
