From BruceR; Limo lift; Fantasy Studio; Random bits and bobs (90 pts)

Without a project starring me in the face, I've again grabbed minis that have been languishing on the shelf of opportunity for a long, long, time.

There should be a random studio.  Ha.

First, I've summoned the Limo from Lady Sara again to move from the Books studio to Fantasy.  As my fee I've painted a couple of Victoria sci-fi miniatures with one being a female raider.

The first is Captain Laura Swift.  Both of these will work with my Stargrave band to include my Ogre brute done earlier in the Challenge.   I did my DIY basing again to keep them in the grimy tunnel/bulkhead motif.   These are Victoria miniatures I picked up from Trenchworx.

The Fantasy Studio is easily satisfied.  

My first fantasy submission is GW Demigryph knights.    Before the Old World exploded we played a fair amount of WHFB.  I had purchased Demigryph knights and painted up the mounts.  Being points based armies and having a rather large collection of Empire I simply mounted other knights from other units on the beasts and never bothered to paint the knights for the Demigryphs.  So another little victory for some miniatures lying about unpainted.  

Here are the knights ready to mount their trusty steads and head into battle for the Emperor Karl Franz.  The mounts were previously painted so only the riders count for the Challenge.  

Next in my little pile of opportunity are a few dwarf miniatures that must have caught my eye.  The First two are Long Drong's pirate's figures.

I actually do not have the foggiest idea where this next miniature came from.  I don't remember having the box set, but who knows.  Scouring the web I discover he is "The Baron" from an old Citadel set produced by the Perry brothers.  

Fun and Nostalgic Stuff.

That's my week.  We did play bolt action this past Sunday during our most recent snowmagedden (Nov to March) is a long snow year.  The game got me to prep the last of my winter Italians and a couple of vehicles.   Time to get busy.  

Almost forgot I did throw together two pieces of smallish terrain for my pirate scenario.

The "Luck" tent and some goodies for pirate island.  I figured 5 pts for the tent and veggie table.

From PeterB - The Power of the Evil Horde! - 60 points

 And so we come full circle to a project I was working on at the beginning of the AHPC. During the challenge the next Wave of miniatures from Archon Studios was released for their Masters of the Universe - Battlegrounds game (That is a mouthful). So, I of course I ordered them, constructed and undercoated them during the challenge and got the set finished today.

This set is a new faction for the game, the Evil Horde. They may not be familiar to some, if at all to any of you. They are in fact the bad guys from the planet Etheria where Adora lived after being kidnapped by their leader Hordak. Adora of course being He-Mans twin sister known to most as She-Ra. (Fingers crossed Archon eventually release a model of She-Ra atop her winged unicorn Swiftwind)

A previous enquiry asked what the strange white bits on the front of the bases were of these models. They are a facing indicator as the rules take into account which way the model is facing at any one time. I therefore wanted to make them nice a clear in a clean white.

As per before, I have painted the models quite loyal to their original colour schemes, which as they were toys (and cheap filmation characters) are in a limited palette. I have shaded and highlighted a bit as otherwise they really do look dull.

The set also came with two pairs of matching trees for extra terrain pieces in the game. These were painted up with some simple layering of browns, highlighting up to a final tip of white to try and make them look like dead wood to match the aesthetic of the Evil Horde.

So, to the points,

That is 8 x 28mm characters - 5 x 8 = 40 pts

The trees take up the same space as 4 characters, but they aren't complicated to paint, so 10 points each? So another 40pts

Total = 80 points. (Maybe 60)

Minion Miles:  Those trees are pretty nice but they seem like terrain to me and I'm guessing they fill out a 6 inch cube so 20 points for them - sorry

From TeemuL: Free Peoples of Middle Earth (50 points)

Going through my Ikea box this week, last of the dwarfs and some Rohans. They were rather fast to paint, since I have painted lots of them in the past and I know the colours and painting order etc.

Here are the last 5 dwarf warriors from the box and the last unpainted Lotr dwarfs I have, so army is more or less finished. I will buy reinforcements though, so don't worry. I need some specialists and rangers at least.

As I said, painted in the familiar way, green and blue for clothes and brown leather armour with yellow pouches and black shafts. Based on my usual Lotr way, paint brown, glue sand, brown wash and brown drybrush. Simple but rather nice, I think.

Next some Rohans from the same box, but there are still some to paint. I hope to finish the last during the Challenge. This army will be more or less finished by then, I wil probably buy only some character models in the future, but we will see.

This is actually Mithril mini of King Theoden, so coming from the Mithril department of the previously mentioned Ikea box. Two challenges ago I painted the old metal GW mini and the "new" plastic models from the Pelennor box. This one is mounted and without a shield, so gives some options. And I think I like this more than the plastic one, the horse has a nice pose, could be from the movie...

Not as detailed as modern plastics, but very characterful metal mini, I'd say. Painted with Contrast paints and metallics from GW.

Then three metal Rohan Royal Guards from GW. I painted three mounted and unmounted with spears some time ago, but managed to buy these second hand. I decided to give two swords and one spear, just to get some variation and options. I have painted the characters and royal guard with red cloaks, regular warriors with green cloaks, and I think these elite warriors pop up rather nicely. I especially like how the shields came up, I got lucky with the Contrasts, I guess.

From this angle they don't look that special... I'm writing this on Sunday, since I will be the whole week in the military refreshment and the following weekend at the scout camp. My access to phone will be limited (and no laptop at all), so I won't be able to comment much this week. Next week I need to focus on my Director's Chair challenge, but I won't be able to finish it by Wednesday, so I will need to think something else to keep my at-least-one-post-a-week schedule. And I guess I need to give some updates regarding the Muir and Drar movie, too. I have been too busy to write anything.
