From JeremyM - 28mm Ghosts, Spetcters and other Nasties (35 Points)

Hi everyone!

Here are some ghosts, specters, or just general undead I painted this week likely for use in Strange Aeons. All were from Reaper Bones, and like my submission for the hot theme most were transparent plastic. I'm not terribly happy with how the yellow ones turned out but don't really want to strip them.

The skeletons rising though I'm really happy with. I decided to make more of a little diorama by adding some plastic Wargames Factory skeleton bits to also look like they were rising out of the ground and starting to come after some poor investigator or 'Threshold Agent'.

Again I'm not totally convinced the trouble of trying to keep the transparent effect is worth it, but it may warrant some more experimentation.

From Curt:

I know you're not wild about some of these Jeremy, but I like all of them. Like you, my favourite is the same as yours: that last grouping, with the skeletons and spirits rising from the ground. That's a brilliant effect you've achieved. Well done!

  1. Nice work! The slightly transparent effect looks great! How did you do it? Just some washes on the transparent minis?

    1. I used tamiya clear paints and minitaire ghost tint paints. Both are similar to a wash and tend to go transparent. Both though tend to leave the mini with a gloss look, they also have a strange consistency compared to standard acryclics. The tamiya need alchohol to thin them, not entirely sure about the minitaire.

  2. WE usually think of ghosts as being white so it is very pleasant to see a change from the norm. You are braver then me I think I would have stuck to white, But now I am wondering why.

  3. Well I like them a lot as well, again the skeleton one is for me the best. You obviously did a great job on adding the extra bits as I thought they were part of the original sculpt.

  4. Very nice work Jeremy. I think the transparency was worth it - it definitely makes them look properly spooky :)

  5. These do work well and have suitably ethereal feel. I think transparent greyscale would look cool also

  7. I have seen these painted many, many times at Reaper Forums and few have turned out as well as yours. You did a great job on these!

    1. Thanks, although I'm not happy with the yellow ghosts. (Strange I must not have sent curt all the photos as I had some from the front as well). Oh well.
