First off is a Vickers Mk IV Light Tank, as used by the BEF in France in 1939, armed with a machine gun, these were really for recon work. I found the kit sprues in a box in the loft, so I'm not sure who the kit manufacturer was but seem to remember it was Airfix.

It was a simple job to build and then paint in olive green and then apply an oily wash to give some shading. Likely this vehicle is destined to join my small and slowly building VBCW force defending the Liverpool Dockyards on behalf of the Lancashire Union of Soviets Councils.

The Second vehicle is a Kangaroo RAM APC from 1945, basically a de-turreted Sherman Tank used to transport a squad of ten infantrymen in relative safety. This is a resin kit that has been kicking around my workbench for years and thanks to this year's challenge I have finally got to paint it.
Rear view, with some of the guys sitting on the storage items |
Again its a basic olive green paintjob, with multiple canvas rolls, boxes and other stowage painted as appropriate, before I decided to add the British crew on top of the vehicle enjoying a bit of fresh air.
Certainly not the recommended way to travel, but as this is a painting completion, I thought why not, the vehicle looked a little plain without any figures to brighten it up.
From the front, Bren Gunner riding point. Many of these vehicles were initially totally disarmed, clearly seen here. Later cupolas were added to some variants to mount a machine gun. |
The figures are HAT British Tank Riders, painted up as regular British infantry, six riflemen plus a Bren gunner sitting up front.
A top down view into the fighting compartment, one of the issues troops had with these vehicles was the difficulty getting in and out. |
From a Squirrel point of view this is a cumulative 5 Points (Cheyenne Warriors, Scots Covenantors, Zombies, Dr Who & WW2)
POINTS
2 x 20mm Vehicles = 30 Points
7 x 20mm Foot Figures = 28 Points
TOTAL = 58 POINTS
Mike W you have been been a busy boy! Nice work on these early and late war AFVs Mike. I especially like the Ram Kangaroo with it's riders. There were differences between the Sherman and the Ram, but yes they were very similar. I'll let the rivet heads point out the differences. It is also nice to see a Mark IV light tank as you see the Mk VIs more often.
Nice vehicles and tank riders! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful work Mike. As a Canadian, I always like seeing the RAM Kangaroo being represented. The HAT riders are excellent.
ReplyDeletePretty steal beasts!
ReplyDeleteThose riders look like they are happy to have a ride
