BrianC: I missed 2 weeks! Life Happens. Greeks, Zombicide, Reaper Miniatures (240 points)

Oh boy! It's been a couple of weeks since my last submission. A lot of work and life in general happened. Anyways! Here we go! I have some Zombicide, More Greeks, yes more! Ha! A Reaper Miniature, scatter terrain, 15mm terrain, and some 15mm Werewolves!

Warlord Games Greeks (28mm) (21)

More Greeks are on the way!

15mm Werewolves from Blue Moon Miniatures (15)

They're well-detailed, too.

Now some more Zombicide minis!

Women of the night and runners (6)

Zombicide Toxic City Zombie Walkers & Runners

You came at me like a Wrecking Ball! Zombicide 2nd Edition "Billie" aka Miley Cyrus.

This will be for the "Famous Person" category.

Another Zombicide Survivor, Kyoko aka Lucy Liu

This Zombicide Survivor, Louise, is from The Rue Morgue core box.

Next is Zombicide 2nd Edition Supernatural TV Series Vampire

For my Children's book topic (Paul Bunyan), I will use Reaper Miniature Lumberjack.

Here are 2 Zombicide runners from The Undead or Alive Core Set.

Next are more 3D printed terrain and scatter terrain. I uses the "cube" method for scoring.

15mm Sci-Fi desert buildings and 28mm log piles.

There you have it! That's all I have done for now.

SCORING:

34-28mm x 5pts = 170pts
15-15mm x 2pts = 30pts
Terrain = 20pts
Children's Books Topic = 20pts
Famous Person topic = 20pts

TOTAL = 240PTS.

So...like...I have questions...did Paul Bunyan survive the Zombie Apolcalypse? Did they hide out in a lumber yard, and overcome some werewolves and a...vampire...did the Greek infantry form a phalanx and keep the zombies at bay? A lot going on here...

For scoring, I detected one bonus, but not a second...I'm pleased to count Paul B as a "Famous Person" - it is not clear to me from this post how it (or the other elements) would count as a "Children's Book". So with that correction we have 240 points - well done.

From DaveD - Snowy Trees (106 Points)

Following on from last weeks entry that had the first bits for a winter table here are the next pieces . This time it’s a range of conifer tree bases - about enough to cover over a third of my planned 8x4 table .

The money shot - you all just want to see a King Tiger in the snow

It’s a BOGOF - here is the JagdTiger . Pity I painted the tanks 4 years ago .

Following on from last week’s initial winter themed trees this weeks sees a whole forest of  conifers .

The trees are made by Busch a German railway manufacturer. They come in a range of heights and pack sizes. I have 4 or 5 packs worth here .
A pre and post snow. The bases have holes drilled and the trees are hot glued into position

They have various shaped MDF bases that were sourced through Warbases , some of the larger ones have inserts that can be removed to put troops/ vehicles in as well . Some are designed to fit with others to make a denser forest area.

Snow and Glue. Messy

They get a base mix of PVA and sand as usual, this is then coloured a darker brown . I then use a layering spray (a thin PVA mix) and cover and then shake over Woodland scenics snow. The end result look pretty good .

Points  Size is 24x16 x average 3 inches high so 1152 cubic inches or 5.3 terrain cubes so 106 points .

Back to something different next week and on the 10mm Naps

Well done Dave. Painting terrain is always a drag, but full marks for the image of the iconic heavy panzers deployed in the snow!

From TomC: Banzuiin Chōbei (25 points)

Hello again everyone, long time no post, the gap between posting is getting longer when I need it to be getting shorter! It can be done, January has been a busy month, some of it for good reasons (getting my wife's manuscript in front of publishers), some of it less so (UK self-assessment tax deadlines)...

Today's entry is a 28mm Warlord Games sculpt, from when they carried the Test of Honour range, and is Banzuiin Chōbei, from their Chōbei's Rebels set. He's still available under their Warlords of Erehwon line but I did not acquire him that recently!

The man himself was a Japanese folk hero, using his prodigious sword skills to protect his local area from roaming hoodlums. A traditional drama suggests that he was only killed when his yakuza enemies, unable to defeat him combat, trapped him a bath house and set it on fire!

He was a great change of pace from my last entry, despite all the laced armour panels (although fewer than there could be!), I really enjoy these Warlord sculpts and this was no exception. He also holds the curious distinction of being the first topless miniature I've painted... (Doombull Brown / Cadian Fleshtone if you would like my nipple recipe) I still have trouble with bright metallics, at least the sword looks sharp!

I took the opportunity to finish the basing on these characters while I was working on Banzuiin, which means that I've finally completed the Bandits and Brigands box Warlord put out... you can see the assembled gang below, I painted the first about six years ago now (first in from the left)!

Points wise, no improvement on my accounting ratio from last time (or Curt's Rosetta Stone!): one 28mm miniature for 5 points and a Famous Person location bonus for another 20 points for a not so grand 25 point total.

Hi Tom! Well, if we are going to have these ratio-heavy 25-point single figures, at least they look amazing! Some fantastic brushwork here, even if there are "fewer" laced armour panels, given that "one" is too many for me and thus has always kept me away from ever exploring this sort of setting.

And bravo on finishing off that box set...that sort of thing can take a bit of time for all manner of perfectly legitimate reasons...for example, say, you start five other boxes of things at the same time? Or life stuff happens? Whatever! It is done, and the whole group looks fantastic!

25 points for you - thanks for treating us to some incredible painting.

From Millsy: A giant, a tank and some palm trees walk into a bar (80 points)

G'day All,

This post is possibly the very definition of eclectic. It's comprised of all the half finished stuff that wasn't quite ready for other submissions. There's now enough of it that it is irritating me so it needs to be dealt with.

First up is a Reaper Bones giant and the last of the big monster-type creatures I had prepped to paint. He should have been finished with my Ogres but didn't make the cut. Ostensibly "28mm", he's approximately 100mm tall and based on previous entries of giants worth 20 points. Not much else to say other than he's filling the Oversized Challenge Library slot as well as any doorway he jams himself into. Apologies for the poor photo, he's leaning way forward and depth of field was a real problem.

Next up we have a plastic 28mm Matilda II as support for my Western Desert Aussies here and here. A nice kit to assemble and fun to paint. Fitted with a crap gun but heavily armoured it'll be an interesting challenge for early war opponents to get rid of but not present that great a threat itself.

Lastly a bunch of palm trees. These are for a range of projects but in the first instance they'll add to my desert terrain for Bolt Action games. They roughly fill a 6" cube by the time you take out all the fresh air I guess.

\

Points-wise...
  • Giant + library bonus = 40 points
  • Palm trees (approximately 1 terrain cube) = 20 points
  • Matilda II = 20 points
Total = 80 points.

Thanks for looking!

Cheers,
Millsy

Ah, I love these submissions of various stubs from other projects...I think of it as a "clearing of the baffles", something you need to do every so often so you can re-orient your painting and dive into new projects...or even three other projects at once...but still...

These all look fantastic Millsy! The giant is tremendous, and a perfect fit for the "oversize" category in the Library. And the Matilda...a classic of the western desert WW2 setting! Lovely! And I'm sure the crew will appreciate having some nice palm trees to drive through on their way to some sort of terrible encounter with an 88mm gun out in the desert somewhere...

That is another 80 points for you!

From Millsy: Nurgle? Ewwwww!!! (90 points)

All things foul and pestilent
All creatures bloated by rot
All things foetid and maggoty
Papa Nurgle corrupted the lot.

G'day All,

I'd wanted these finished last week but there's so much fiddly detail they've taken much longer. You simply can't rush disgusting it seems. So what do we have here?

Death Guard Space Marine Heroes

I'd already said once before I was done painting Death Guard and then these finally appeared at a price that didn't make my eyes water so what are you going to do? Only Morslug is missing so if you have one and are willing to part with him let me know as we can maybe cut a deal.

Great Unclean Ones

These two were part of a lot from eBay which also included the Daemon Prince below. They were incorrectly listed as metal and turned out to be resin, but the seller was a generous chap and refunded 2/3 of the purchase price given his error so one of these two plus the Daemon Prince effectively ended up being free. They needed a lot of clean up and repair work beyond just stripping the original paint job but I think they came out alright in the end. We might need a new version of the Skullz tally for hideous boils now...

Quite what I will do with two of these I don't know. If someone would like to swap the chap without the horns and tongue thingy for something else let me know.

Chaos Daemon Prince

Is this the worst resin min ever made by GW? Quite possibly! It was full of miscast sections, fitted together really poorly and (no fault of GW) was missing his sword. No suitable replacement was available and I wasn't going to buy one so he got a leftover sword from a Death Guard Terminator. It looks ridiculously small in his ham fist and makes me laugh every time I look at it.

I've decided he annoyed Papa Nurgle enough that having lost his sword he was forced to use a small cheese knife instead. For those interested, the Plaguefather does have his own cheese line called Stilton. Wikipedia says it has a "characteristic smell and taste" which is like saying the ocean is a little damp. I once spent a day in a camper van with a wheel of this stuff whilst bringing it home from a trip for my grandfather and the smell really is no joke.

Points-wise...

  • 6 x 32 (28mm) infantry = 30 points
  • 3 x "giant-sized" critters @ 20 points each = 60 points

Total = 90 points

Anyway, that's all the unpainted Nurgle stuff I had left. Pleased to have cleared the decks on another project with a few odds and sods left to do. Hopefully anyone who looked at this hasn't lost their lunch. Apologies if that's the case!

Cheers,
Millsy

***

Hello Millsy - and hello again to all AHPC participants. My thanks to Millsy and the other Minions for their efforts stepping in to cover my duties for the past couple of weeks while I had to focus on moving to our new house. The move is now out of the way! The packing, not so much...but the worst part is done, at least...so I can devote some time to the Challenge again!

And what a project to return to! Nurgle figures make me laugh, as they inspire quite the fan following, which GW nourishes by issuing a pretty steady stream of new figures and characters through every generation of figures. The Nurgle figures always attract the talents and efforts of excellent brush folks - just like Millsy here...sigh...Nurgle is like the Bon Jovi of the Chaos gods...but I digress...

You have done great work here Millsy, catching every detail with your brush. Nurgle figures are notorious for offering all sorts of small details, and you have honoured the sculptors' work with your brushes! The magical effects, the terrifying symbol, the censor...all well done, and that is before we come to the slumbering monster daemons!

That's 90 points for you! Congrats on getting another project done and dusted...and perhaps a Challenger can help you track down that missing Morslug?
