From JonathanO: 28mm Winter War Finnish Platoon (235 points)

Here is my first entry in this winter's challenge.  This is my second year in the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge and I hope to paint considerably more than I did last time!

My first offering is a Finnish infantry platoon for the WWII Winter War plus a few support options.  These will be for use with the Chain of Command rules by Too Fat Lardies.

The miniatures are from Baker Company.  As mentioned in an earlier Challenge, the figures are of mixed quality.  I do not have the skill or patience to do as well with these as Samuli and MichaelF did.  However, I am pleased to have made a start on my Winter War project.

There are 50 figures in total, 6 of which are lying down. So I think that will give me 235 points and get me on the scoreboard.  It should also give me an initial lead in my Early WWII side duel with my friend Scott.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

Jonathan

Welcome back Jonathan!

Very nice! A wintery paint bomb to kick off your Challenge for this year.

I was initially in the Kickstarter for these figures, but pulled out once I saw the prototypes.  That being said, I think you did a great job working around their weaknesses and playing to their strengths.  I also like your groundwork with the fallow grass poking through in some places. Will there be any associated vehicles coming in the coming months? I look forward to seeing this develop.

A very impressive 235 points for your opening volley - well done, Jonathan!

  1. You have done well to make these look so good. I have to admit I gave up on them before I even cleaned a single figure up

    1. Thank you Sander. The snow outside here is nice and powdery too. No good for making snowmen though!

    1. Cheers Barks. I used Army Painter snow flock and a mixture of highland and winter tufts.

  14. Welcome back,Jonathan!
The basing is nicely done and I do like the adhoc look of them all..even with the same smocks! ;)
I have heard the castings were not that good, but even so I regret not getting into the kickstarter...even moreso after seeing these painted up!

  15. Very determined looking Finns. I like how you have some of the white camo suits stained with mud and dirt. In my experience of Canadian Army winter training, it's very rare to see pristine white camo. Most peoples' whites are stained with dirt, nicotine, coffee, Redbull, poop,
what have you. Congrats for getting on the scoreboard!

    1. Thanks! I didn't want them looking like a promotion for washing powder and needed a little contrast to the fresh snow.
