From SarahHC: Lady Sarah's Limousine (40 Points)

Hi Everybody!

Lady Sarah’s Transportation Service has been a super popular feature over the past few Challenges.

Today, I present the luxury limousine service that is the preferred mode transport around AHPC Studios, GmBh.

After searching for a suitable 3D print, I found this retro car from Modular Worlds.

When I told the Snowlord how I was planning to paint the car … he was a bit dubious about my colour scheme. I quickly sketched my plan and he/we decided that the only way I could execute the colour fade would be to use the airbrush.

First time using the airbrush and I must thank Curt for his patience and kindness. I can happily say, that there were very few mishaps, and no curse words (truly)!!

The limousine’s Challenge clientele is eclectic, interplanetary and time traveling, and I thought should be both glamorous and elegantly futuristic.

It’s silver chrome and acid green colours are also pretty dynamic and exciting, which means the car is super fast too! Perfect for zipping around the studio lot.

There were a lot of steps to get from the original concept to the finished model.

Not just that it was my first airbrush experiment, but Curt kept putting forward ideas … and I actually followed some of his suggestions!

I must thank Curt for his patience. I can happily say, that there were very few mishaps and no curse words!!

Trying to do an ombré effect with the airbrush was really nerve wracking and scary. Will I try again? You bet!

I also used an oil wash, then using a small sponge dipped in thinner, I removed the excess oil paint. Thus, giving more depth to shadows and seems to enhance the ombré effect of silver into the acid green. Pretty nifty! Thanks Curt!

Points wise = One super-groovy 20mm scale car for 15 Points AND if anything, this entry should be perfect for the Lady Sarah's Limousine theme (I'm sure she's there behind the privacy glass, looking glamorous). :) 35 Points total.

Not sure what I will paint next, but I do need to get busy if I'm going to meet my points goal.

Thanks for reading and happy Wednesday!

- Sarah

Minion Miles: A wonderful treatment of the automative subject.  but you're off on points, the total is 40 as you get 5 bonus sympathy points for having to listen to Curt's suggestions.  I would have been tempted to spray him with the airbrush - on "accident", of course

From MattW: Caesarian Roman additions (220 points)

Roman additions

Then the real start of my Republican Romans, coming up over the next few weeks I intend to commence the sixth then the 7th legion who both fought locally to me fighting the Aulerci tribes in the west. We have two identified battlefield locations within 30 Klm and 6 including two sieges within 200 klm.

The romans needed to breakdown the stone and timber gaulois oppidums of the west, with that in mind I have built some siege engines to achieve that! Miniatures and pieces are from Warlord Games.

Ballista, built two of these so far

Onager

and finally two scorpions one pair for each legion

7 x 28mm Artillery pieces @ 10 points = 70 points

17 x 28mm Roman artillerists @ 5 points = 85 points

Caesarian casualties, completed for now, although missing one who will join the hospital diorama to come.

13 x 28mm roman casualties @ 5 points = 65 points

Total Points Romans =  220 points

cheers

Matt

Is there no end to your Romans, Matt? Those artillery pieces will certainly give your legions an extra bit of punch against the Gallic and Germanic tribes they encounter.

From Curt: Turnip28 'Welp' Light Cavalry - The Davekon Radish Light Dragoons (40 Points)

Hi All,

As Dave recently declared that Tuesday should be kept 'Turnip Free', I thought it best to send in a tuber torpedo with these 'Davekon Radish Light Dragoons'. ;P

These motley fellows represent the light cavalry, or 'the Welps' in Turnip parlance. The base models are from Knucklebones Miniatures, with a few modifications involving head-swaps, etc. I quite like these figures as they have sort of a Ralph Bakshi 'Wizards' vibe going on.

This one I did up with a bicorne as his pose reminds me of David's famous painting of Napoleon crossing the Alps.

For the standard bearer, I removed the musket and replaced it with a brass rod. I then made up a flag for the pole, freehanding a heraldic device.

I liked the morion helmet on this mook.

...and the bearskin on this fella.

As to scoring, these four cavalry figures should give me 40 points.

Thanks for dropping in! Have a great week!

- Curt

It's always good to have the Show Lord himself drop by. When I saw the title, I thought "Welp" might be a reference to the noise DaveD will make when he sees this post appear on a Tuesday, followed closely by "wibble, wibble".

These cavalry and their "mounts" look very, well, bizarre. Great painting and basing, Curt.

From MattW: Germanic tribesmen (275 points)

 Germania

The real business has started with my Germanic Tribesmen, 120 odd to paint over the coming weeks. A lot on the desk at the moment but fitting things on the 60x60 bases has been a hassle with the warlord poses. I have had to make up models for specific spots so no rubbing with the bases either side or overhanging spears.

First unit are my Woden sanctuary protectors with the totem matching my original opening entry. A mix of Foundry, warlord and some Victrix bits.

18 x 28mm Germanic tribesmen @ 5 points = 90 points

Second unit are the Hase (Hares) a decal from a Greek shield for the banner man, the majority of the shields are LBM, the runes on the wicker shield were an idea I had, they are symbols pf Woden

18 x 28mm Germanic tribesmen @ 5 points = 90 points

Einherjar Harii tribesmen worshipers of the Woden cult and associated with the wild hunt. I have decorated them  with black painted wicker shields and black warpainted bodies as described by Tacitus. Figures from Warlord games range.

7 x 28mm Germanic tribesmen @ 5 points = 35 points

Finally some individually based figures for skirmish gaming also or can rank up behind the larger bases.

12 x 28mm German tribesmen @ 5 points = 60 points

Total points 275

Cheers

Matt

Fantastic work, Matt! Do we get the other 65 next week?

Tamsin

Yes I plan too, plus I have another box to build so I can match and fit the other bases, plus archers and slingers too

Cheers

From DaveD - Nam USMC LVT’s and RR’s (120 points)

Back to the ‘Nam which of course is the main focus for this challenge . This time it’s more kit for the Marines .

Some transport Landing Vehicle Tracked so the Marines can storm the beaches .They are properly large. I picked these up as resin 3D prints from Butlers Printed Models - not cheap but one offs ,  so just got to suck it up .

One LVT5 . These things are capable of carrying 30+ marines so are a great way of hitting the beach or crossing those rivers . Mind I can understand wanting be on the outside!. There are plenty of pictures from the time with sandbags around the top so I have modelled as such . It used a full pack of terracotta milliput to make them . I then added a 50 cal and gunner along with a guy firing an M60 . I’ve ordered a few more kneeling figures to go in as well at some point . I will also add a driver/  commander when  Full Metal have them back in stock. I would love one of these modelled with the door open - who knows in due course one may get made .

The dismounted guys are for effect and scale

Can’t you just hear The Halls of Mintezume ringing in your ears right now?

The LVT6H - is the support element with a big gun! They just filled it with ammo . Well  you need an amphibious unit with a big gun obviously.

Doing these has seen me eye up the WW2 LVT’s I have in the stash and the box of Marines . Now if only I was playing in Miles’s Pelilieu game at Historicon.. oh wait I will be ! Now I just need to persuade the arch butterfly MartinC of this parish that he needs some Japanese and we can go island hopping as we already have all the terrain we need  - any excuse to buy a battleship … tune in next challenge …

Next is more firepower in the form of recoilless rifles sets  Lovely figure combo from Full Metal Miniatures - just a bit of a bitch to put together as they all have separate arms.  There is one set up firing with a couple of guys hauling an ammo box , and then 4 guys straining to man haul one - they do have that look on their faces

2 x 28mm massive vehicles = 40 points and anything you may to award for all the damn sandbags - hell I even added a pile of spent 50cal casings too .

2 full crew and 50 cal (Crew served) 15 points

8 Marines = 40 points

2 guns = 20 points

Total 115 points for the total and Never Ending Cold War

I will need to sort out more VC and NVA at this rate .

Next up is mostly likely more green stuff ! I have even made a start on the “bonkers” thing 😂😂😂 which is like Ken building the Bismark , then destroying it and putting it on the seabed - just it’s even bigger . Mwwwaaahaaha!. While  researching for this I came across various VC commando raids into Thailand where at times these were based . That would make a fun game I reckon.

Wingspan 32 inches, length 28 inches  ! That’s as far away as I could hold it .

Well, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing that bonkers B52 - but will you be naming it after one of the band?
Great work on the LVTs and the RR teams. I've added on a few points for the sandbags and the extra large LVT, to round you up to 120.
