Last day in quarantine today so trying to complete a few things. First up is some additions to my growing Caesarian Roman force.
To oppose Alan's rebellious Romans I have build a third base of 8 Legionaries for my white shield unit and a small bolt thrower. The Romans were famed for their complex artillery, of which many types were carried in the legions' baggage trains including the large Onagers and Ballistas for siege work. This one was nicknamed the Scorpion and was one of the smallest, its primary purpose being to provide direct fire support to the Legionaries."I bet you a wineskin that you can't hit that big, naked hairy fellow over there" |
I did their tunics in a brighter white, to reflect these fellows being occupied with their machinery and not doing all that dirty infantry stuff. I also wanted to try and tie in their colours to the white shields of the Legionaries. The red flowers on the base help tie them into the Legionaries' red tunics too.
Unlike the rest of the army these are metal figs (Warlord) |
These units complete this component for the Army for now. Next I will be progressing other supporting elements and the Army's command figures.
"Form Wedge!" |
Wow, you are churning these fellows out!
ReplyDeleteYes mate but I'm running out of infantry now - onto the support troops!
DeleteThe eternal problem with the legions, the need to flesh the ranks out with auxiliaries.
DeleteVery nice! Romans never fail to look impressive and the colours really stand out on these.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jamie, bold colours are a clear choice for these lads!
DeleteGreat pieces and exceptionally well "staged", well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Simon!
DeleteGreat looking legionarys and super looking scorpion!
ReplyDeleteBest Iain
Thanks Iain! I think I need at least another one... and maybe an Onager too :-)
DeleteThese are great Paul. Love the elephant gun, errr scorpion.
ReplyDeleteThanks Peter!
DeleteReally nice to see the different shield colours on these, they will really stand out on the battlefield. Great work.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeremy, I've really tried to give them a bold, "Rome is Here" kind of look :-)
DeleteExcellent work Paul! Love the Scorpion. Nasty piece of kit.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nick - looking forward to giving it a test firing or two :-)
DeleteVery very nice Paul.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ray!
DeleteGreat work on these Romans Paul!!
ReplyDeleteThank you George!
DeleteLovely work on these
ReplyDeleteThank you Martin!
DeleteFantastic work Paul! I'm enjoying working on this Roman civil war project with you, and shall crush you.
ReplyDeleteThanks mate, me too. No worry, if somehow you are triumphant I will ensure you meet some special 'friends' in the Senate...
DeleteBeautiful work Paul - every cohort needs a crew-served weapon. :)
ReplyDeleteAt least one :-)
DeleteNice work on the troops and the heavy weapon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stuart!
DeleteLovely, got a right arms race going on here 👍
ReplyDeleteRegards KenR
Yep - with more to follow :-)
DeleteThanks Ken!
They all look great, love the anti-tank rifle! I also love the way you use your colours and basing to tie it all together. Very effective!
ReplyDeleteI reckon the Scorpion bolt would go through an early war Armoured Car (and probably an early post War APC), so I'll go with the ATR description - nice one! :-)
