from RayR - Challenge Round Up!

Sadly the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge has come to an end for another year. But what a great few months its been, I find it such a motivational experience, I'm sure we all do really? Usually it wipes out my painting for the rest of the year, but with this horrid Corona Virus keeping nearly everyone in lockdown, what else is there to do but paint more.  In Challenge X I planned on painting up 1600 worth of figures, which I just managed to pass in the last week.

I painted up
162 x 25mm figures
10 x various terrain/vehicle pieces
90 x 15mm figures
96 x 10mm figures

I always plan (ok hope?) for a top 20 finish, if I make the top 10 its a great bonus, this year I finished 11th, which I'm extremely pleased with. Somehow I forget to post 3 25mm figures I painted up, I bought 9 painted figures at a show and needed another 3 to make up the unit to 12. They'll now appear later on my blog, Anyhow........

Here's my performance so far in all the Challenges
Challenge II        4940 points 1st
Challenge III       2586 points 4th
Challenge IV      1227 points 17th
Challenge V        691 points 37th
Challenge VI      681 points 36th
Challenge VII    1093 points 24th
Challenge VIII   662 points 40th
Challenge IX      2274 points 8th
Challenge X       1687 points 11th

So finally a massive thank you has to go to Curt, Sarah and all the Minions for all their hard work and thanks to all the other Challengers who pushed me forward with their competition and all the great comments!

Vive la Challenge!!!!

  1. A really good challenge Ray! I like your late 17th century stuff ( don't say the d word!) but your Haitian revolt project was really excellent with fascinating insights into bits of history I need to explore!

    1. D word? I dont know what you mean? I fancied doing something completely different. The Haitian Revolution fitted perfectly.

  2. Ray, The Universal Most High King of Sandbagging, forgot to post three painted figures? Something is very wrong with that... ;)

Great Challenge from you Ray, and not everything was for the D-word! ;)

  4. It has been an absolute honour to serve alongside you my friend! Who could resist badgering such a talented hobbyist? Love all your Donnybrook posts and the rare otherwise related gems!

  5. Excellent set of entries mate, you pipped me in the rankings in the final days! At one point I thought you were out for the count, so you did well in the end. I'll give you your Challenge Island figures next time we meet up...which at this rate will be sometime in the summer!

Stay safe mate, hope the family are all well, and of course keep an eye on that incorrigible reprobate Postie next door!

    1. I knew it was gonna be close, but I did go quite mental the last few days, I will admit.

  6. Great job Ray. Lots of fine painting, but for me the true shock was to see a game of "Donnybrook" played - well done.

  7. You had a fabulous Challenge Ray. Personally, I thought is was an absolute triumph to have you show us a game of this fabled Donnybrook, but I also loved your new Haitian War project. Brilliant work that. Well done!

  8. Ray, I have a confession; I actually purchased some 1672 civilians from North Star for the Sandhills (and very nice they are too!), but alas, they didn't make it to undercoat stage. Mea culpa!

As long as they don't become a gateway drug for something like the Jacobite War in Ireland, I should be safe...

Your own offerings are, of course, both plentiful and perfectly-executed! And only a few sandbags at the very end!
    ; )
    Well done, mate!

    1. Cheers Evan, perhaps they can wait until the next Challenge, when you do start a Donnybrook army?

  9. Lovely looking minis. The stuff for Haiti looks great and kind of tempting as a new project.

  10. Still haven't got a clue about this Donnybrook thing, but the figures you've submitted are great. I was really taken by your Haitian collection though. Great work!
