From MartinC - Athena (8 pts)

With the Indians finished I needed a change of scene so I painted this 40mm model of Athena by Hasslefree. Obviously as she is by Hasslefree she is naked, which should make Ray happy.

It's a beautiful figure, in 3 parts plus stand. This was painted with lots of washes, new method to me, and I'm really pleased with how she came out. Nothing worse than photography to pick out the blemishes though

So obviously the symbol of Athena is an owl but I couldn't paint one, I tried loads of times but t was rubbish so a posh stylised alpha will have to do

Really am pleased with the skin tones, but another mould mark found.

So 1 40mm figure = 7pts

Erm, ahem, well... I'm not sure what to write. Maybe it would be better if I just said, well done mate and gave you the points! Actually putting multi-part figures together can be a real pain in the bum so well done getting this in once piece. I'll thrown in a bonus point for the shield making this an eight pointer!

  3. very nice work. Interestingly I don't think Athena was depicted Nude by the ancient Greeks... artistic license is a wonderful thing.

    1. No, helmet angle is right for lots of images of her though. Guy at Hasslefree is obsessed with nudes of both sexes

  8. Terrific work Martin. Nice, subtle colouring on the skintones - it could be easy to botch this one up by being too heavy handed.

    1. cheers I did try, would have worked with my usual splash and dash then hide all the mistakes with a wash

  9. Excellent work Martin - however I am concerned that the efforts of both you and Ray in the "blue Miniatures" art form may force this blog to have a warning about adult content. You've probably already pout us all on an NSA watch list. Maybe not Curt - he's been on their list for a loonngg time

    1. You're probably right, Miles. If I'm not already on it I will be in an entry or two coming up. :)

    2. guilty as charged M'lud. Sometimes it's just too hot for clothes and luckily for us all they don't make a naked model of me.

    3. Now there's something we can all be thankful for. I'm told the closest thing for an "au natural" model of me comes from the GW Nurgle line of models. I find that to be less than encouraging.

    4. Nice to see a bit more boobidge in the Challenge, welcome to the club Martin!

    5. Miles, putrid green not really your colour, more a maritime blue or serpentine, maybe with a natty cap.
Ray, not really a boob man, I have my own to play with

  11. Homer writes repeatedly about Athena’s outfits, but I guess this sculpt is of Athena before dressing herself in robes and armour ....
Nicely painted and the sculpt itself is lovely, as befits a Goddess!
