From:ScottC - Luke Skywalker- Knights Solar submission (90 points)

For my Knights Solar submission I have painted up Star wars legion Luke Skywalker (operative).

I have plenty of knights in shining armor but I wanted to ride my star wars momentum.

To accompany Luke is a band of wookies and a couple of nondescript droids.

As every hero needs an antonist I couldn't help but paint up some baddies. Star wars legion imperial Royal Guard and an Eweb.

All in All great bunch to paint.

Points

11- 32mm infantry =55 pts

1 Eweb 60 - 70mm base- 15 pts

Challenge bonus - 20 pts

Total: 90 points

Next on the painting block are some modern middle east apartment blocks and insurgents.

From DaveD - Egyptian Gendarmes - Sudan 130 points

 Hi,

First up,apologies I am really struggling getting to comment on people’s post . I can maybe get it work one time in 20 at the moment - blogger really hates me it seems .

While spinning the joy that is covid in the day job I have been getting back to some dusty things! The first sees a newly raised unit of Egyptian Gendarmes for helping to surpress the Mahdi uprising .

Nice Perry figures which weren’t too much of pain the clean up .

13 x 28mm mounted = 130 pts . Huzzah that scoreboard is moving again ...

I hear the Mahdi’s drums are beating in the distance , see you again soon .

AdamC: Lair of the Great Beast the Terrible (45 Points)

There are monsters in the sea... monsters made by men like the First Rate ship-of the-line.  I've Crisned this one le Terrible, a 110 gun ship that was built at the hight of American Revolution.  When she was built she was one of the largest ships ever built in France
She made one cruise in American Revolution but didn't see any action. She did see action in the French Revolution.  Batteling the HMS Royal Sovereign, Terribble was dismasted in this fight but her crew did not strike and she was towed by the French back to Brest
She took part in several other cruises until 1804 when she was decomissioned a broken up. I picked this designation because I like the name and it seemed "monsterous" which helps with the theme of our room. Also her long service means 1780 to 1804 means I can slot her into any number of fictionl scenarios.  Note I set things up so I can switch flages her from Royalist to Revolutionary or even Britiish <gasp>
To give you an idea how monsterous she is compared to other ships here she is with a tird rate ship of the line.... seriously a 75 gun ship is all but invisible when behind her....
Here is the same ship in front.  Terrible is long, broad and taller than anything other than a ship of same class.  The room grants me 20 points ad then 25 points for the ship, the minions may add additional points for sails rigging and flags as they see fit.

From DrQ: Severina the Hexcast Sorceress for Sarah (25 points)

From the Knights Solar I'll require the teleportation skills of Sarah the Sorceress to get to my next locale: Graveyard Beach. As such, I've painted up one of Ninja Division's Master Class minis Severina the Hexcast Sorceress.

Severina is a character from Ninja Division's Way of the Fighter game, but back when the game was on Kickstarter they offered a tier wherein you could by chibi versions of the characters 'cosplaying' as heroes from their game, Super Dungeon Explore.

I paint all my chibis with a cell shading, non metallic look. I used a lot of Citadel contrast paint on Severina here to help with her cape and staff. I've been really impressed with these paints, but you do need to be careful and protect them with lacquer or the paint will rub off. Since this miniature is a delicate resin, it probably won't spend much time on the table; but I nonetheless sealed the model with Dulcoat to make sure to keep her safe.

As far as points, 5 for the model and 20 for Sarah's help for a total of 25.

Now on to Graveyard Beach!

KenR - 28mm Allied Legion General - 20 pts

A quick General Post 😉 today as I stick well and truly to my schedule and knock out the second of the two sub Commander bases.

Figures are Victrix as usual, however on thing I have noticed is how huge the horses are ! For Ancients I base 3 Cavalry on a 60 x 60 base, generally no problems at all (check out my last unit of Aventine Cavalry) these won't fit 3 up on a 60 x 60 base, mostly due to the width of the horses. I need to remember that when I start building my Carthaginians up.

Nice and easy calculation for the points, 2 x 28mm Cavalry at 10 a piece is 20 points.

Slowed a bit this week with the painting, the white is really starting to drag but I'm halfway through the 2nd batch of Principes so should have those done before I go back to work next week and then onto Cavalry unit number 2.

Progress shot below with new General in place.

Happy Thursday!

Just a note that the updating of the score table will occur a little later than usual due to some work commitments.  I apologize to all of you for displaying such poor judgment by prioritizing my professional responsibilities over my fiduciary obligations to the Challenge.

I really can't explain myself - I just screwed up.  I do hope each and every one of you can look deeply into your hearts and find the will to forgive me.

Of course, if you do choose to be jerks about it, then I can not be held responsible if, while in my despair, errors occur within the holy spreadsheet that result in whole jerk-related submissions being erased.  I'm an emotional tinder box, just waiting to explode.  Yup that's me - Mr Sensitivity.

Now you riff raff should get back to painting.

GrahameH. 15mm German Units of the Franco-Prussian War

Having finished my 15mm 1866 Austrian Army I decided to finish off the last of my German Army for the Franco-Prussian War.

All the figures are 15mm from Essex.

First up are three Bavarian Infantry Battalions. Each of 32 figures and a unit of 9 Jägers.

That’s 210pts for the 105 figures

Keeping with the Bavarians, next up are some Light Cavalry.

18 mounted figures that 72 pts

Next 18 (72pts) Barvian Curassiers

Next some generals. Three Prussian General (24pts)

Now some Prussian Cavalry. Two Prussian Hussar Regiments

Finally a unit of Prussian Currasseirs

So for those three cavalry units, each of 18 mounted figures is 216pts.

I think that it for the moment for the nineteenth century, although I am a few Generals short. Not too sure what to do next, I’ll have to look at the lead mountain.

Oh total points (618pts) I think.

AdamC: Hall of Heroes the Redoutable (35 Points)

Can a ship be a Hero?  Some, especially sailors, will tell you ships have personalities.  Regardless the crews of ships can certainly be Heroic.

This is the French Ship of the Line Redoubtable built in 1791, her early career was fairly unremarkable with a mix of service in European and Caribana Waters.  Some time in 1804 or early 1805 she was placed under the command of Captain Jean Jacques Étienne Luca who was probably one of the best French officers of the Napoleonic wars.  He realized he couldn't train sailors in harbor but he could train fighters. By all reports Lucus put his men through a rigorous drill using small arms, grenades and hand weapons.

Lucas and Redoubtable had a date with destiny on October 21 1805 at a point in the sea that would be know as Trafalgar.  Redoubtable was located three ships behind the French Flag ships and when those ships started to fall behind Lucus took Redoubtable into the gap and and tried to prevent Victory form cutting the line behind the flag ship.  The Redoubtable failed to stop the Victory and soon found herself in close action with the larger english ship.  In the early going Redoubtable held her own striking Victory with a broad side and a savage musket fire (Lord Nelson falling to a shot form an unknown French Marine).  Lucus was about to attempt to board Victory....

Dramatic recreation
When HMS Temeraire cut behind Redoubtable and raked her the broadside killed and wounded as many 200 men including Lucus and his 1st Lieutenant both of whom stayed at thier post directing the fire form both broad sides at Victory and Temeraire (both of which were larger ships). In this close range firefight the Redoubtable was savaged and most of her guns put out of action. Things got worse when the Tonnant crossed Redoutable's T again. Still Lucus and his crew responded with musket fire to a call for their surendure and fought on. Lucus struck his colors about 2:30 that afternoon his crew having sustained a casualty rate of 88% (544 out of 643) by comparison Victory suffered 160 casualties and Temeraire suffered 120. Redoubtable was reduced to wreck and her survivors were taken off by HMS Swiftsure.  By any measure this was a heroic if doomed fight.
Redoutbtable is from the French Fleet box from Warlord a plastic 3rd rate with metal figure head and stern piece. I used the battle damaged sails I got as part of a prize over the summer. I did some damage of my own to the flags. Points  15 for the ship (under the new scoring) minions may add more for Rigging and Sails (pretty please) and another 20 for the room resulting in 35 points in total.

From ScottM: Knights Solar - Chaos! (70 points)

Entering The Knights Solar we have the spot for knights and knightly deeds, loves and quests. So I went with Chaos knights. Their deeds, loves and quests are pretty much comprised of one thing: killing everything. These 28mm metal figs are from Games Workshop.

I went with a more muted paint scheme rather than something bright and vibrant. They're not quite as dirty as I wanted but they'll do.

So that  should be:
5 - 28mm cavalry figs + Chamber bonus = 70 points

AndrewB - Hall of Heroes

For my entry into the Hall of Heroes, we’ve got everyone’s favorite vine-swinging, tree-living monkey man!   This fantastic mini from Old Glory also came with a damsel who appears to be in some distress, and she’s been painted and included as well in order to skip a few chambers ahead.

My work on skin is still a progression, but that’s to be expected, I suppose.  These models with lots of exposed skin are really pressing me, but that’s how we learn!   The leopard print on ol boy’s pants didn’t come out exactly how I would have liked either, but such is life.

The teleportation provided by This lovely lady will take me to the Snow Lord’s Treasury!

I count 10pets for the models, and 20 for the chamber.  I don’t know if the lady counts for anything on her own, but that’s for the adjudicators of points to decide!

Happy Painting!

AndrewB - The Knight’s Solar

Today’s entry into the realm of pulp-related challenge rooms is the Knight’s Solar!   I’ve painted up a late Victorian questing knight, Sir Harold Johnson.   Sir Harry, as his friends call him has ventured away from the rainy isle to seek his fortunes elsewhere.   Currently, his journey has taken him to an arid clime(maybe North Africa, maybe the dry southern plains, maybe some middle eastern desert), and he’s ready for adventure.  This is a delightful figure from Ian at Irregular Miniatures.  Ian’s a great guy, and his customer service and product selection can’t be matched!

Sir Harry has a number of loyal soldiers accompanying him, but the ones that are currently painted were done before the start of the challenge, so you’ll have to wait for the second batch to see them.   I have some German Seebatallion which I finished last night to oppose them, and when they’re based, you’ll see them as well!

My scoring leaves me at 20 for the challenge and 5 for the figure for a total of 25pts!

More soon!  Happy Painting!
